David Reede
Executive Director | San Carlose Apache HHS
Mr. David Reede is the Executive Director of the Department of Health and Human Services for
the San Carlos Apache Tribe, where he oversees 16 programs. He serves on multiple boards,
including the CDC/ATSDR Tribal Advisory Committee (Phoenix Area delegate), the San Carlos
Unified School District, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Tribal Technical
Advisory Group (where he chairs the Behavioral Health Subcommittee), the Arizona Advisory
Council on Indian Healthcare for the Phoenix Area with the Indian Health Service, and the Naw
Woodi nonprofit organization.
He is a founding board member and former Board Chair of the San Carlos Apache Healthcare
Corporation. He previously served as Executive Director of both the Wellness Center and the
Healthy Natives Communities Foundation in New Mexico. Mr. Reede also served two years as a
Tribal Council member and four years as Tribal Vice Chairman.
A frequent presenter at Indian health forums, he co-authored a Public Health Reports article on
COVID-19 response titled “Implementation of a COVID-19 Screening Testing Program in a
Rural Tribal Nation: Experience of the San Carlos Apache Tribe.” He was also invited to speak
on the panel “Honoring Our Origins: Integrating Cultural Values into the Indian Health Service
and Tribal Health Systems” at the 2025 National Indian Health Conference.
Mr. Reede earned his degree from Northern Arizona University in 2001, becoming the first in his
family to graduate from college. He comes from a family committed to serving the Apache
community; his father designed the San Carlos Apache tribal seal. He is dedicated to improving
the lives of Native people, especially the Apache community, through education and community
engagement.
